Testing Tuesdays 5 - KetoDiet App
Keeping track of carbs isn't the easiest thing - I think we can all agree on that!
And finding a reliable source of carb data can be tricky.
We couldn't find a comprehensive list of items with their carbs so we used the web, but that's not always the easiest when you're in the kitchen cooking.
After a lot of trial and error we have settled on the KetoDiet app. You can add ingredients to meals (breakfast, lunch etc) as you go though the day. You can create recipes. You can add new ingredients.
We like...
easy to use, and has most ingredients, including the source (such as Mushrooms, from Tesco)
you can build recipes for dishes you cook often.....so these are easy to recall
when making recipes you can say how many people the dish is for, and the app will show carbs per person.
you can scan barcodes of some ingredients to get the carbs
it tracks carbs, calories, fat intake etc.
you can add ingredients that the database doesn't hold
We're not so keen on...
it's an American developed App - so you need to set for UK (so it doesn't deduct fibre from the carbs figure) but be careful, if you set it for UK and use American brands the carb figure may be wrong
Some products (again where they are international) may not have the right carbs for the UK - such as Helmans Mayonnaise - so just add your own version into the custom ingredients list. (see the example photo)
(This is a video of how to add lunch, bacon and eggs cooked in butter to the App, 1.4g carbs in total)
Score out of 10?
9/10 - once you get used to it, the App is easy to use and the more you use it and add your own recipes the quicker it is to log meals. We used this App to work out the Carbs in all the recipes in our book and continue to use it most days. (If they could sort out the incorrect carbs thing - when using international/US ingredients, we would give this a 10).
Would we buy it again?
Yes! We paid $11.99 for a year's subscription to the pro version and we will renew without a second thought!
